Asians Acquiring Academy Awards

The 93rd Academy Awards were a big night for Asians. Three Asian women made history with their wins:

  • Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) became the second woman and first woman of color to win Best Director. As a producer of the film, she is the third Asian to be awarded Best Picture.

  • With her win in Best Supporting Actress, Yuh-Jung Youn (Minari) became the second Asian woman and first Korean to win any acting Oscar.

  • Fresh off her Grammy, H.E.R. (Judas and the Black Messiah) became the first Asian woman to win Best Original Song.
